Aalborg is the city I call home, and it is a place that constantly surprises me. It has a magical way of balancing wild, high-energy celebrations with deeply peaceful, reflective spaces.

As a mother of four, my days are always full of life. But finding a balance between the chaos and the quiet is a big part of who I am—and it is exactly what I reflect on in the Aalborg chapter of my upcoming book, “The Denmark I Want to Remember.”

Here are three of my favorite local contrasts:

  1. The Energy: Aalborg Karneval
You cannot talk about Aalborg without mentioning the famous Aalborg Karneval! It is the largest carnival in Northern Europe, turning the entire city into a massive, pulsing sea of colors, costumes, and music. The energy here is infectious and pure joy.
  2. The Peace: Markus Kirken & Local Sanctuaries
After the loud music of the carnival, my heart always craves quiet reflection. Standing outside Markus Kirken and forming a heart with my hands feels like a true symbol of gratitude for my life here in Denmark. It is a reminder to find stillness in a busy world.
  3. The Taste: Dinner at Det Glade Vanvid
To wrap up a beautiful day, a dinner at “Det Glade Vanvid” in Aalborg is the ultimate way to celebrate life and good food. Food has a unique power to bring people together, and it is the perfect final reward after a long day of local adventures.

Aalborg truly has it all—the noise, the silence, and the flavor. Which side of the city would you like to experience first? Let me know in the comments below! 🥂✨
