There is nothing quite like sitting on a plane by yourself, looking out the window, and realizing that the entire itinerary is completely up to you. Solo travel is incredibly liberating, but it also means you are 100% responsible for the planning.
When you travel solo, safety, budget, and logistics are your best friends. Over the years, I have developed a foolproof checklist that keeps me safe, organized, and ready for adventure:
- Secure Accommodation First
When traveling alone, always book your lodging for at least the first few nights in advance. Look for highly-rated places in central, well-lit neighborhoods close to public transit. - Share Your Itinerary
Never completely disappear. Always leave a digital copy of your flights, hotel addresses, and travel insurance policy with a trusted friend or family member back home. - Smart & Light Packing
If you cannot carry it comfortably by yourself up a flight of stairs, you have packed too much! Packing light keeps you mobile and less vulnerable while navigating busy transit hubs. - Financial Backups
Never keep all your money in one place. Split your cash and credit cards between your wallet, your main luggage, and a secure digital backup on your phone.
